Generally speaking, I only oversee domestic internships. International internships are normaily conducted under the direction of the staff at the Kennedy Center. More information can be found at the international study page on the Kennedy Center website.
Internship credit can be granted for as little as 1 credit hour and as many as 12 credit hours.
Please note that BYU does not allow internships with direct sales companies. This includes, "all positions in the direct sales industry: sales, marketing, managerial positions, etc."
All internships must be cleared through Debbie Kinjo in the Advisement Center (273 HRCB) prior to begining the intership, to ensure the proper university required documents are secured. This is especially true for international students, who must also coordinate any internship with BYU International Services.
Under the right circumstances, IR 399R can count as credit toward the IR major. A maximum of 6 credit hours from all internship experiences may be counted toward the degree requirements. For more information, please see this document, which explains the requirements in detail.
